The tutorial is organized by:

Martina Kutmon, MSc Department of Bioinformatics
Maastricht University
The Netherlands
PhD student
Martina is a senior PhD student at the Department of Bioinformatics at Maastricht University. She is working on her thesis ‘Organizing biological knowledge in pathways and networks’. Her work focuses on three main aspects: (i) data integration, (ii) data visualization and (iii) data analysis. Martina is one of the two architects in the WikiPathways and PathVisio projects, two open source projects developed by Maastricht University in collaboration with the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco. In the last two years, Martina got more involved in the field of network biology. She developed two Cytoscape apps, CyTargetLinker and the WikiPathways app.
Susan Coort, PhD Department of Bioinformatics
Maastricht University
The Netherlands
Assistant Professor
Susan is an Assistant Professor at Maastricht University. She has a background in Molecular Biology and Health Sciences. In her current research she aims at applying and designing bioinformatic approaches to answer biological questions. In these approaches the main focus is on pathway and network analysis. Moreover, Susan was organizer and instructor at several one-week post-graduate courses in which the complete workflow for microarray data analysis was introduced.
Anwesha Anwesha Bohler, MSc Department of Bioinformatics
Maastricht University
The Netherlands
PhD student
Anwesha is working on software solutions connecting pathway analysis and modelling. She is one of the developers of PathVisio and WikiPathways. Furthermore, Anwesha is working on a number of PathVisio plugins,

  • PathVisioRPC – an XMLRPC interface for PathVisio enabling direct use of PathVisio functions in any analytical environment,
  • SBML importer – allows importing of SBML models in PathVisio providing up-to-date graphical (SBGN) representations of computational models in PathVisio which can be uploaded to Wikipathways for community curation and can also be used to visualize data on,
  • Edge Visualization plugin – provides visualization options for interaction data.
